When Google took Gmail out of beta, they took some steps to enhance their security, making it a notch better than other email services. They recognized that the world was going mobile and used that to their advantage. Given the sheer number of people who use their services, it makes sense that a large quantity would constantly forget their passwords. To help with these situations, Google added the ability to recover your password via text message.
The next time you forget your password, enter your username on the password-assistance page, and Google will text you a recovery code. No need to check another email account or even leave the page.
A best practice is to add as many passwords recovery options to your Google account as possible, like a secondary email address and security question. Don’t forget to keep them up-to-date!
